i was thinking about maintaining a blogroll fro quite some time but never able to think of a list of good blogs which I usually visit…then i decided to look up the cyber world to find why ppl add the blogroll in thrie blogs…the first place to look up came to mind was wikipedia but it has only the very basic definition of blogroll…so it didn’t help much…then I googled the term blogroll…and found some interesting articles written by some geeks. An interesting article here lists some very intriguing points…

Blogrolls are used to express connections between weblogs. By having a blogroll, you are saying to the reader “Here are other weblogs that I like- you should check them out too.” Further, you’re telling other webloggers. “I like your site and I think my readers will too.” On a high level, the blogroll says “Here is my community of webloggers- I fit into this group.”

But then there is a negative point of having the blogroll as well…

a blogroll is an invitation to flee your site. Think of the blogroll being a value-added service for your site. You will have readers that browse your site only to find another site and never come back. You can’t expect to capture the attention of every reader- but you can help them along the way.

I like the idea of helping the reader along to find blogs of their interests, if they found mine not-so-interesting or mundane or they just wanna explore the blogosphere more…so the idea of connecting ppl with what they want is quite appealing…but then every other blog has a blogroll, so whats the point in doing something which everyone else is doing (though I started blogging just for this reason :p), I decided to do something more then just adding the links on the blogroll…

i’m gonna write the articles about the blogs I really like for one reason or the other…It’s a much stronger endorsement, much better PageRank benefit, and it’s far more interesting to the reader of my blog…so stay tuned…whole lot of interesting blogs coming ur way…
